OUR MISSION: To make justice accessible by ensuring that child support, maintenance, and medical obligations are enforced fairly, efficiently, and with integrity.

Who Are We?

The Court Trustee serves as an appointed officer of the Court, at the pleasure of the Chief Judge of each judicial district. The Court Trustee does not represent either the party paying support nor the party receiving support, but instead represent the interests of the children in the cases we oversee. We mainly assist with child support enforcement, modification of existing orders and medical judgments.

We strive to be the calm in the storm—communicating with upset parents, frustrated payors, and concerned caregivers—offering professionalism, education, consistency, and a path forward grounded in law and empathy.

Our Main Roles:

Child Support Modification

Once child support is established by the courts, we help parents navigate modifications in the event of a change in circumstance (income change, emancipation, etc.) and can review orders every three years to update them. This includes working with families to obtain updated income information, preparing and filing child support worksheets and motions to modify, and updating obligations with the Kansas Payment Center.

Child Support Enforcement

We work with parents and caregivers to create concrete solutions for past due amounts (arrears) and enforcement to ensuring financial obligations are met. We issue Income Withholding Orders (IWOs) to employers to ensure timely and accurate deductions from employee wages, helping implement court-ordered child support obligations efficiently and in compliance with state law. When cooperative efforts are unsuccessful, we may initiate contempt proceedings as a last resort to compel compliance and uphold court orders.

Medical Judgments

When the court orders reimbursement of medical expenses not covered by insurance, we assist parents in reviewing and verifying the expenses and resultant amounts owed, and work to get a payment plan or medical judgment in place, which may then be collected alongside child support through existing enforcement mechanisms.

Case Management

Case management includes monthly updates to payment calculations, reviewing files for changes like emancipation or modification triggers, identifying arrears that may trigger contempt proceedings, sending weekly collection reports to the court, and update support obligations with the Kansas Payment Center and employers.

Our Team: We don’t just hire for open roles—we hire for mission alignment. If you’re detail-driven, empathetic with strong boundaries, and want to be part of a small but mighty legal team that helps families receive the financial support they’re entitled to—while also working with payors and payees to find real, sustainable solutions-- we want to know you.
